Guest guest
Enough! Knee injuries have been number one in the in jury top ten hit parade for too long...
Does anyone else have problems with their back? Every couple of months or so, my left sacroiliac joint seizes. It makes for an interesting practise (very limited upward dogs). The last time this happened was at Yoga Plus in Crete. Now, wierdly enough, at the same time my hips opened to an amazing extent (slipping into padmasana is a piece of ****). Radha said the pain was an opening.... what does everyone else think? And what's the best treatment, bearing in mind it happens fairly regularly?
Guest guest
I've never had any problems with this area of my body. However, 2 people I know have.

Interestingly enough (to me anyway) both were of German ethnicity and very similar body types. One was my old karate teacher (who was quite flexible) and the other was John Schumacher, a fairly well known Iyengar instructor. Also similar was the mysterious onset of the "slippage" for both these men: it just happens out of the blue for no apparent reason, while engaged in non-strenous activity. Also similar is the pain from the slippage: absolutely incapacitating and mindblowing. My friend the karate guy went to see an Osteopath for relief; I'm not sure what Schumacher did.

Seems to me that certain conditions are genetic in nature; that is, they may not occur because of incorrect technique, but are inherent in the individual's constitution. Of course this is just my observation from a very limited range of experience . . . yet it does make sense that if certain body types have inherent strengths, it follows that inherent weaknesses may also exist.
