Guest guest
Hi, folks.

Is anybody out there located in the LA area? I'm preparing for a conference in Los Angeles during the first week of August, and am trying to work out what to do outside of mathematics. The primary unresolved issues are food and yoga.

I think I've worked out where to do some Ashtanga (Noah Williams and Kimberly Flynn on Sunset Blvd), but are there also teachers or practice groups closer to the UCLA campus?

Also, can anyone recommend unpretentious restaurants with vegetarian items near UCLA?

Thanks,
Homer
Guest guest
Homer:

I don't live in LA, but I did attend a seminar in Chapel Hill hosted by Maty Erzaty (sp?) and Chuck Miller. They are YogaWorks in Santa Monica and I would recommend them highly. I realize travel time/distance from UCLA to Santa Monica could be a problem but I really liked them. Guest guest
Yogaworks in Santa Monica is your best bet. It is closer than Silverlake if you are at UCLA. In LA time, it's right next door. Go to Real Food Daily for veggie meals. It Rocks - REAL FOOD DAILY This Santa Monica shrine for all things vegan proved itself so popular that it has spawned an offshoot near the Beverly Center. Regulars stop in for serious vegetarian fare served in a refreshingly unpretentious atmosphere. Worth a try are the black-bean tostadas, seitan (a wheat-gluten-based meat substitute) fajitas, mashed potatoes, house-baked bread and the daily specials. 514 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica, 310-451-7544; 414 N. La Cienega Blvd., West Hollywood, 310-289-9910.
Guest guest
There is a vegan restaurant right in Westwood withing walking distance of UClA called Native Foods. It's on Gayley. (Also, it's fairly easy to find vegetarian items on most menus in LA.)
