Guest guest
homer

An interesting restaurant with vegan cakes and veg cuisine is A Votre Sante.

The one i had in mind ( there are a few) is on San Vicente which is a beautiful road if you take it all the way to the end onto Ocean (or what would have been called First street in Santa Monica to jibe with 2nd, 3rd etc.)

What's nice about going there is it is like 4 doors up from Maha Yoga which also offers ashtanga every am from 7 am - but it is open from i think 6:30 if you want to start early. Jorgen teaches there and he is a refreshingly nice teacher and pretty traditional (in case the yoga police is ready to spurt). This is where i choose to practice when in LA because the driven, competitive neurotics haven't found it yet.The room is airy.
There are some really good other yoga classes later on if this time slot doesn't suit you. Maha Yoga is on the corner of San Vicente and i believe 26th, upstairs in a little middeteranean complex- check out the japanese tea place on the ground floor - they serve yerba mate, and nice little dim sum. Also i have found some veg fare at the sushi bar right on the corner if you can stand the fish smell.

And it is a short drive from yoga works too, which offers a 4pm mysore style class with Maty and a 7 am mysore class with Chuck.

For the ultimate in vegan fare call the Living Light House on thursday eve early for living vegan cuisine - in other words delicious raw foods- and good company. 310-395-6337....1457 12th street, santa Monica.

A votre sante is not pretentious, i think, but the occasional healthy movie star has dropped in to pick up take out. I hope by now they have made the venue a little bigger.

Good luck with the traffic.
