(1) <br><br>Brahman-Atmananda Purport:<br><br>Yoga means "oneness" from the root yuj "to yoke". Yoga can mean the process through which oneness is facilitated or the goal (irrevocable oneness with Universality) itself. This goal of Yoga (Completeness) is also the purpose of existence.<br><br>"Now" connotes an auspicious time, the dawn of the awakening of consciousness into life's true meaning and ultimate direction. Here Rishi Patanjali (circa 200 BC) assumes the role of Guru (gu "darkness" ru "that which dispells"), Illuminator and weaves the first fiber of the sutra in the disciples' consciousness.
