Guest guest
Is there a point where concern over these matters crosses the line into self obsession? Would that not be one cause or root of addiction?
Guest guest
Obsession with the Self rather than self obsession is the goal of yoga. Ashtanga yoga in tact as taught by Sri pattabhi Jois is a path to understanding the Self. Do the practice every day - leave no pose out, make no changes or omisssions and certainly freedom from psychological addictions, lack of control over the senses will fall away. This is the goal of the practices. If we cannot control our tongue (what we eat) how can we control the mind??? Soon we may realize that eating late with friends, eating meat and other intoxicants (yes dead rotting, bacteria teeming flesh is an intoxicant)is not as appealing as early to bed and early to rise with a light body and mind to practice yoga and other daily saddhana. Whats the goal - eat , and drink like a king (and suffer the ensuing disease and agitation) or pursue our path to God (yes God - not "the All", that "Which is Mother Nature" or the Breathing Being that Abounds"). This is the reason to follow a strict tradition ie. Ashtanga Yoga of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, vegetarianism etc. because it is tried and true and steadiness and peace of mind will follow. And as these qualites are cultivated through daily practice then All is coming.
