Guest guest
I avoid dairy products mostly because I am lactose intolerant. Dairy products are excessively high in protein and fat (like all animal food is). Their regular consumption leads to a chronic acid condition in our bodies, which sets the stage for arthritis, osteoporosis, and a generally weaker immune system. Not to mention all the growth hormones and antibiotics that the animals are loaded with, which ends up in the food.

Sugar is very acid-forming as well. Think about what it does just in your mouth...cavities! It is hell on your liver, pancreas, adrenals. It makes me feel awful when I eat it.

If you can eat these things without them having a negative effect on your health, then more power to you! To each, his own.

Enjoy your food, enjoy your practice. They both are a blessing. Namaste
Guest guest
On diet, considering what i've seen work for others and for myself, I agree with SPW's comments. The possible exception may be sugar making one stiff -- this may be true for some people, I just haven't really seen the connection. And as you point out, there's plenty of sugar in Guruji's coffee, and yet Sarath seems reasonably flexible (joke).

Eating less food, and eating mostly raw food, is in my opinion and experience the keystone of the yoga diet for flexibility. Plenty of water is also essential.

On the other hand, dairy might be essential for some people. We have to have a certain amount of fat, and perhaps it has to be animal fat, in order to keep our fire. Eating 100% raw might be great for your backbends, but if you feel you're freezing all the time (and this is a very common symptom of an all-raw diet) is it worth it?

Reality before concepts
