If you want to drink coffee with milk and sugar do it. All our gurus are very much human beings.<br><br>They make mistakes.<br><br>Some of their more ardent followers make excuses for their mistakes: For example, those who are hurt during intense adjustments must not have "trusted the guru" sufficiently.<br><br>What really happened is that the guru screwed up and pushed too far. <br><br>Sometimes myth gets mixed with Wisdom, and you find instructions in certain books that directing the yogi to do a headstand for 3 hours. Really not a good idea; if it was a good idea, surely you'd see people practicing such things! Yet, the author of one such book belittles those who don't practice the 3 hour topsyturvy.<br><br>Strange tales about lost books depicting ancient yoga series...when a more plausible appraisal suggests that vinyasa yoga is a creative project that even includes elements borrowed from Western gymnastics.<br><br>In other words, I try to remember that Astanga Yoga is a mixed bag. Its many benefits can't be denied; yet blind trust isn't the goal; self-awareness is.<br><br>Which means that path of "not this, not this."<br><br>And what Guruji does with the quarter mil gross from his summer teaching tour (do the math) is purely his own business.
