Guest guest
I don't post often..but I do read daily all the posts...'My class is better than yours..this author is worse than that..buy this book..go to that country.' Ok..first of all..BBB admits in her book she has skipped some of the postures. And for those of us with no knowledge of Astanga..or classes near by..or the money(or desire) to go to Mysore..BBB is a good start..Her books meant alot to me..not because I thought they were definitive..no book ever written is..but because through her I have discovered a style of yoga that suits me..call it commercial..I call it the beginning of the journey..easy to read..enjoyable..and left me with a hunger to know more. With the knowledge she imparted..I moved on to David Swenson..then when I felt ready to the Yoga Mala. I learned to read with 'Run Spot Run' silly maybe..not the definitive book on dogs..but it made me want to read more. Don't knock all of the commercial books..they do bring many people in an informal way to a powerful practice..it is up to them then if they want to move on to deeper practice and head for mysore..or it brings them joy..contentment..and better fitness and they never go further.Does it matter??Is the goal physical or spiritual? Because one is not fulfilled unless they follow the scripture exactly...doesnt mean another won't find enlightenment because they don't feel the need.
There are many different systems of Yoga..precisely because there are many different types of people. Are we to look down on someone who practices Bikram..or Hatha..or Jnain(sp). If I have to stick to the short forms because my lifestyle doesnt support 2 1/2 hours practice a day am I less a Yogi?
I say knock it off with the semantics..knock it off with who is better or who is worse and go back to the true purpose of this club.. Guest guest
Exactly my feelings. The level of discussion can hardly be called spiritual. I am a beginner and I dont think this forum supports me much in search of mental balance. But then, I dont have to read this, do I? Just better get back to my mat. Guest guest
I thought message 1435 by Opurple made some interesting and valid points. The same things she talked about haven't really changed, only the names have been changed to protect the innocent - or was that the guilty? Well, back to the future...where I can think about what she said at the very end of the message, which seems to run so contrary to the current psycho-drama of ferreting out the rat. But then, everyone loves a good mystery...
