Guest guest
My point is that it's about muscular balance. Most sports work - cycling, rollerblading, snow skiing, rock climbing, and hiking for example (all of which I am very active in and familiar with) - overtrain certain muscles and joint motions. Ashtanga is a wonderful way to balance that overtraining leading to reduced injury and improved sports endurance and performance. And active healthy muscles and joints speed progress in asana. The breathing and mental focus of the above sports are mutually complementary with Ashtanga, too. For those of us over 50, active dynamic sports and Ashtanga practice powerfully complement each other.
