Guest guest
It is not a head position that dictates the placement but rather the drishti (gaze). In down dog the gaze is always nabi chakra (at the navel). So with each vinyasa and throughout each set of five breaths in surya namaskara, the gaze goes to the navel. So the head appears to be tucked with chin to the chest. That is the Ashtanga Yoga Vinyasa system. Try it - if you haven't been doing it - it will change everything.

Re: Mysore and knees - many beginners go to Mysore, probably more new students than experienced. I've been several times and never saw any stretchers with broken students being carried out. Actually it is in Mysore that major impediments are overcome. Ahh the grace of the Guru...
m.p.
