Up until about 2 months ago I would have agreed

with you..but after being rushed to the Gp with the

effects of practicing inversions during my menses..I

would say it is a wise idea to avoid them.It can flow

backwards..it can aggravate certain conditions..i.e.

endometriosis..and in my case..it caused a full contraction of my

uterus..which would not let go for over 2 hours..anyone who has

had labour will tell you what that would feel

like..but add in that it would not relax to normal as it

would in labour. I would imagine that this was

discovered when women did start practicing yoga however long

ago.<br> On another note..I have never heard of women not

practicing nauli. I have practiced this for a few years and

found it actually helped with painful menses..as well

as a chronic bowel problem I have. It is actually

easier to learn if you just concentrate on isolating the

abdominal recti forward first..until you can push it in and

out rapidly..then progress to the side to side wave

motion.

Ouch! Thanks opurple. I got in in my head too

that it was a silly tradition, and for the past few

months decided to just forge ahead with inverted

postures regarless of my period. Your experience

definately tells me it's a good idea to eliminate or adapt

them! And many thanks for the advice on doing nauli.

I'll get my hubby to give me lessons!
