Guest guest
the concept of adhering to the one true way seems to generate a lot of posting here. some have pointed out in earlier posts that the one true way of Jois is a relatively new event in yoga, with the system being developed within the last 50 yrs. it has been noted that, even among those conferred with "authorized" or "certified" modifiers to their names, the series seems to be taught differently by almost every teacher. others have accurately pointed out how the one true way has been modified not by charlatans and outlanders but by Jois himself (the apparent addition of the parivritta posture that is not in Yoga Mala for example). further, perusing the yoga mala photos of jois and sharath and looking at photos of Krishnamacharya shows that the "acceptable" method for doing many postures, like the warrior postures, is less rigorous and more variable than that expected in even the most western "health club" ashtanga classes. so i would like to hear some comments, preferably civilized, on why this process of ashtanga is or is not subject to the same kinds of changes that occur in just about every other system known to man.
