Guest guest
The analogy was not between traditions--it was between concepts. I mean, I was merely pointing out that flexibility in thought and dogma is possible without destroying the heart of a tradition. Hinduism itself has always been a religion of inclusion.

The point I was trying to make in drawing a parallel with the Talmud was that it is a body of literature that is constantly evolving and changing, so please publish your version--it's the way it's meant to be done. As for the Bible, I don't like it so I don't care.

What do you mean by "you religious types"? Can you see that you are a "religious type" yourself? One who respects the symbols, customs, practices, and facades of a spiritual tradition? It's not a dirty word. The entymology of the word "religion" is actually very similar to that of the word "yoga." Both imply a union, or a joining.

So really, do you think that any other form of yoga besides Ashtanga is "clap-trap"? We are smarter than you give us credit for--we can research what is out there and draw our own conclusions as to what we want to do. I happen to agree that preserving the Pattabi Jois method of teaching is important; I choose to not take "diluted" classes or even power yoga myself. Ashtanga is for me. However, it's not for everyone. People have the right to teach how they see fit (even if it irks others) and students have the means (books, people, the internet) to use discrimination. As long as the teachers are honest intelling their students exactly where they are at--no one wants to be fooled. (maybe this is what SPW has been saying?) If a teacher claims to teach "in the tradition of Pattabi Jois" then she/he better do so!

By the way, mutts make some of the sweetest dogs--it's the purebreads that are often ferile and problematic.

Let's all disagree with grace!
