Guest guest
but they are wrong.

May I suggest that you obtain the 1937 video of Krishnamamacharya and Iyengar practicing yoga. Actually it was intermediate and advanced postures from the ashtanga yoga system.

If you were lucky enough to have seen Sharath's demonstration at the Puck builing, you will note that Sharath practice in many ways is identical to the that of the masters featured practicing some 60 odd years ago. (Iyengar was an Ashtanga master--but that is another story)

You do correctly note that there is not the obsession with alignment (that does come naturally with practice) However, do not mistake the focus on bhandas, breath and mental focus for sloppiness or lack of rigor.

This is the opinion of ESPW
Guest guest
Have you actually seen the tape?

Yes Iyengar's demo is far more Ashtanga like than what he teaches now, but he does postures in completely different sequencing than we do and he also does postures that we don't have in Ashtanga.

90% of the postures Krishanmacharya does in the video, we are not taught in Ashtanga.
