Guest guest
a prep pose let me just say is not allowed at a traditional studio but....in the privacy of your own home...

Wherever you are in the series that you are doing a prep pose would be a pose to research (open)the part of the body that the next pose addresses. For instance a half lotus pose requires an open hip. Because i belong to rhe right knee club i here would place both shins on top of each other, parallel to each other with the right knee on the left ankle and the right ankle on the left knee. (both ankles and feet active and fully engaged -this protect the ankle and knee because the muscles hug the bone and maintains correct alignment)This prep pose addresses the hip without at all getting into the knee - one can bend forward on it. I am not reccommending veering off from the traditional, but you asked. The reason i have to do this IN the series (as opposed to just doing it while talking on the phone for instance) is that my muscles hurt without all the preceding poses and all the following poses in place. That why a series is magic. That is why ashtanga vinyasa yoga is magic. I never have muscular discomfort after yoga asana with a complete practice (and in addition when i have enough green juice -it helps alkalinizing the body when one has a lactic acid rush after excercising).

I am not implying that the series is lacking - only that being a western adult creates a specific challenge - and the structure of my knees (knock at the top bandy at the bottom) asks for intelligence in my lotus pursuits. The muscles at the inside top of the knee are weak and my joints are hyperextensive. The preceding is the ideal profile for knee injury. I hope the fundamentalists will see this prepping in context.

Once an area is permanently sufficiently open the prepping is discarded. Cool.
