Guest guest
this was something I felt I had to respond to because I've thought about it too although I am not a frequent participant on this forum. You ask how does one find flexibility or creativity in a system as rigid as ashtanga - I think that is, in fact, the greatest challenge of the practice. Finding new meaning in trikonasana or a back-bend or even just standing in samasthitih or just the breathing IS what ashtanga is about I think. In this way, the practice is very much like life - it has its routines, its daily inferences and repetitions but if you watch the moments pass attentively, you see that each is unique - this is part of the process of liberation. See the mat as a blank canvas, a palette or instrument - a vehicle - inspiration comes from inside in Ashtanga - this is what makes it so hard - and amazing. Peace.
