Guest guest
D'ya know what? I find beer the hardest alcoholic drink to drink since I've been doing yoga (it's about the only change in habits I've adopted). I used to happily quaff bottles of the stuff (real Budvar, Hoegarden and Staropramen being particular favourites). But since ashtanga I find it makes me feel... uneasy, queasy.

The good news is that wine, champagne, and spirits are still top of the alco-pops.

And before I get a chorus of "soon you'll want to ditch them too and live the life of a pure, healthy person" the beer thing happened ages ago.

Do any other girlies have balancing prolems/have tighter hamstrings when they've got the painters in? Guest guest
Hi Blonde,

Just wanted to say that I enjoy your cheerful and down-to-earth posts. I understand where you are coming from. I am very much a newbie, just discovered ashtanga in April, and I still have not fully integrated it into my life although I am working on it. My main problems are my career which requires long hours, and not having a comfortable place to practice at home (both of these are soon to change thank goodness).

I would love to hear other people's descriptions and ideas on how they created their "practice space" that encourages regular practice. I have heard the stories about how yogi's like Rodney Yee (who I do not believe practices ashtanga, but is otherwise a well-respected yogi - correct me if I am wrong) for a while ended up practicing in his hallway while his children climbed all over him. Well, my environment is not quite that complex.

In response to your last question regarding women having balancing problems during their period, I would have to say yes I do. In fact, I seem to have balancing problems on a fairly regular basis and am not sure why (no ear infection that I know of). But yes, I do notice the problems much more during my monthly. My theory on my usual balancing problem, besides being a newbie, is that I usually do my practice in the evening after a long day at the office dealing with problems that I somehow end up taking home with me in my briefcase and in my mind. My focus is distracted which in turn affects my balance. I would appreciate anyone else's theories and perhaps some ideas to tackle this daunting problem.

Truly,
Imorgana
Guest guest
I only get tight hamstrings AFTER the painters have left because I've had to take three days off for them to finish. (Unions. Sheesh.)

I often think about quitting drinking, but it's a real challenge, being married to an Irish construction worker. I am currently trying to bargain with him (i.e., lure him into Ashtanga) by taking golf lessons with him. Golf! I can't believe it. However I've found that being able to do Marichasana D has really done wonders for my swing.
