Guest guest
First, in response to Blonde, I have found the exact opposite to what you describe--but I also know that lots of folks just aren't beer lovers (which I am). I rarely get a craving for anything else alcoholic except wine with pasta. But I laud you on mentioning Hoegarden, such a lovely Hefeweisen and great in the summer sun.

Thank you Alan, for bringing up the quality issue (for one of my dreams is a walking tour of Germany and Belgium to sample local beer!) However, it is true about the poor quality of mass-marketed beer in Canada as well as the States and almost anywhere for that matter. The smaller breweries that have sprung up all over North America--both Canada and the US--make some incredibly delicious brews and use none of the chemicals permitted in big brew beer.

The Pacific Northwest (and I will include BC for these purposes) has some great microbrew beer--and more variety perhaps than anywhere else in the two countries. Yum! And remember folks--it's got lots of B vitamins.
Guest guest
Yes. Come to not-always-so-sunny Belgium, the home not only of Hoegaarden but of other even better "witte" - and other - beers. A very underrated country with varied scenery and superb gastronomy (not often vegetarian however!)

And while you're here come to a class or two with Jean Claude Garnier, an excellent teacher who started studying with guruji back in 1981.
