Guest guest
I consume soy milk every morning with my protein powder and smoothie concoction. If you have a better, way, please tell me. I have suspected the soy milk is like a glob of fat and is tough to digest. I would love to hear what you have to say on the matter.

If one has to drink the "poison", I do suggest Westbrae unsweetend as the other brands are like drinking a chocolate shake as they have so much sugar.

Cheers,

ESPW
Guest guest
I'm also interested in a simple way to make fresh sesame milk or almond milk...I think the soy stuff is kind of thick and sugary, too.
Guest guest
I've used an almond milk recipe from Fit for Life for a number of years as it's easy and good for almond shakes. You do need a food processor though:

Put a 1/4 cup of raw almonds and a cup of water (blanch almonds if you don't won't flecks of brown almond skin/husk in your milk) in food processor and turn on high for 1-3 minutes.

And you're done.

Add 3 frozen bananas and a cup of frozen blue berries/strawberries or raspberries and oh my god you won't believe it's good for you. Num!
Guest guest
El Senor - it is my privilege to share with you. This involves a blender (any will do but i think mine has a turbo lawnmower motor - the vitamix).

You will need a mesh baggie to strain the milk after blending (someone said they got theirs from a hardware store - i can pass on my source also if you don't have one).

Alternate what you use for the base of the milk so that one may detect any preferences and effects - almonds may be irritating to some (note sneezing or funny feeling in throat).

Almonds: soak a few overnight (half cup - 8 hrs) in purified good water. Rinse. Put in blender with some purified water - 1 cup or more). Blend till liquid.( 30 seconds). Pour through mesh bag and gently squeeze the bag like milking a cow (sorry mrs cow). Use more nuts for creamier version, or put in a date or 3 for sweeter flavor.
To speed the process i first pour it through a big strainer, then pour the liquid through the mesh bag to remove all fine pulp. Then put all the pulp back into the blender with a little more water - blend at least for 30 secs - this milk will be thinner. Squeeze through mesh baggie and combine all the milk.

You can play around with the quantities - more nuts with same amount water = cream. Also experiment with seeds.

Use hemps seeds with the almonds for a blended nut-seed milk (almonds and seeds in quantity of your choice). I do sesame/hemp (this has a bitter flavor because of sesame) or sesame/almond, sesame hemp - you get my drift.

It ends up going really fast when you're in the habit. I just learnt that the longer you soak the seeds( it sort of starts a fermentation process) the shorter the milk lasts in the fridge. If you want to make enough to use later in the day - ok. But freshly made milk tastes sooo much better than using yesterday's (yech). Bon appetit!
Guest guest
hi amrita - let me know if you need more specifics and if you were able to find the mesh bag. I'm seeing a girl who distributes her own bags on tuesday - maybe she can give us a good deal.
