Guest guest
I can't claim to be an injury expert but I did have a pretty bad shoulder injury a while ago. It was painful for a long time and I continued to practice but was able to do less and less every day. I really worried about whether to stop or not, especially as I had always continued to practice through injuries in the past, but deep down I kind knew that for once yoga was not helping matters. Looking back I can see now that it was partly my ego that didn't want to admit that practicing might be doing me harm. It got so bad in the end that I couldn't move at all for several days and after that I didn't practice and just had treatments and rested for about a month.
It was the longest break I've ever had from my practice and it was hard and felt kind of strange but it was definately the right thing to do. I'm back practicing 5/6 days a week now - I still get the odd twinge and I have to be gentle with my shoulder. More recently I have been working on keeping my shoulders relaxed and opening my chest which really seems to help.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you have to listen to your body - no one else can tell you whether to practice or not. I found that everyone had an opinion about practcing with an injury and listening to them all only made it harder for me to really listen to my what my body was telling me, which was to back off.
What was really interestng was that my body didn't stiffen up during the break and in fact my practice was better for the break.
Be good to yourself
Daisy
