Guest guest
uddiyana&mula bandha make it possible to transcend the dualities of the body and the breath, they bring about both asana and pranayama within the shapes of the yoga postures. the dynamic of uddiyana involves the activation of the accessory muscles of inhalation, even while breathing out. this creates a resistance to exhaling, slowing it down and intensifying it, keeping the ribcage high and broad, the waist long while being kept flat by the dynamic of mulabandha which invloves the activation of the accessory muscles of exhalation even while breathing in, slowing it down and intensifying it. then the exhale feels a bit like and inhale, inhale like exhale. the movement of the lungs while inhaling depends on the relative strengths of the mula muscles and the uddiyana muscles. if the mula muscles are stronger there will not be much lung opening. when the uddiyana muscles get stronger through use, the breath will open higher, broader and deeper into the thorax, and youll know that you are breathing, and breathing more fully. make sure you are not inadvertently holding the muscles around the solarplexus tight, this inhibits the inhale without challenging it to develop. whereas mula&uddiyana challenge and develop it, resulting in the subtle, sponatenous power of ujjayi. in the beginning it can feel like youre not breathing. dont worry, if youre still alive you are. just keep going and the accessory muscles of inhalation and exhalation will develop and as they do your breath will become more full. its just a matter of practice and patience.
