Dear ESPW

Thank-you for your prompt,

thoughtful, and insightful reply to my message. You are quite

correct that I labor under the veil of avidya, the first

of the klesas, though we all should be careful of

the second, asmita.
How do you feel about the use

of simple props such as stickymats, rings, towels,

or blocks? Is it ok to use a large prop like a wall

to develop adho mukha vrksasana and sirsana? Are

these addicting? And what of accupuncture and

chiropractic and massage? Or urine therapy? I am not ever

recommending practicing numbed, stoned, doped, or in anyway

unaware. But until OM reveals itself and the divine light

of astanga yoga pierces the darkness so that the

obstacles fall away, there are many of us who need all of

these modalities and more (including careful specific

muscle group weight training) to work through injuries,

deformities, and the stiffness of ageing. The gains are great

and in time all these props will be left behind. And,

unlike my esteemed colleague Dr Josef Mengele, I

recommend nothing that I have not used safely and

successfully on myself.
Thanks for listening. And thanks

for the advice on improving my tittibhasana

B!
Namaste.

NSAIDs are pharmaceutical drugs and in no way

should be compared to acupuncture and massage therapy

which activates the body's own natural healing

abilities.
Comparing the use of sticky mats, massage,

acupuncture to popping some pills prior to practice is

non-sensical.
But perhaps if you are practicing "aware that you are

drugged" that is all that you need. Hopefully others won't

follow this advice.
