Guest guest
At the schools I practice at and in Mysore it is traditional to not practice on the day of, not the day before or the day after.

I don't know about fasting and moon cycles.

I do know that Ashtanga is a perfect system. It is the means and not the end. Perhaps yoga will help with lifting your weights (and hiking and riding bikes and everything else), but lifting weights will not help your yoga. Practice everyday and your body will come to a perfect balance, among other things. It is not necessary to do anything else but yoga to make your yoga better. It is not a race, but a process of becoming. It is not about results it is about the steady process. Stiffness in muscles is part of the process of opening up and detoxification. Pain is a messenger and needs to be listened to. Do your practice and all is coming. How simple can it get?

Turmeric is great instead of NSAID's
Guest guest
Great post funybadlady... Regarding fasting, I asked Sharath when he was in Boulder about fasting... he recommends only fasting twice a month... 11 days after a new moon and 11 days after a full moon. And yes, you still practice even though no food is taken in on that day. He calls this day Ekadasi (11th day)... Peace all.

Nada
Guest guest
I'm told (by a senior, certificate-on-the-wall-signed-by-gurji astanga teacher) that guruji is sometimes flexible in his respect of the the moon days. For example, if the moon day is actually a saturday, guruji might call it sunday.
