Guest guest Posted September 5, 2000 Report Share Posted September 5, 2000 I was first taught to do ashtanga holding each asana for 10 breaths, and the finishing poses much longer than usual: shoulderstand 50, headstand 100. My practice has changed because of the "5 breath standard;" I hold most asanas for 5-6 breaths and only occasionally do long shoulderstands/headstands. So I am also curious about this issue. I have no judgements either way, except perhaps beginners may need more time in the asanas, both to get into them and to get used to them. I don't know.
