Guest guest
The Yoga Korunta manuscript that was found by Sri T. Krishnamacharya in a library in Calcutta was a Tala leaf book. Containing the teaching of an Indian sage, Vamana Rishi, the Korunta formed the system of asanas that Krishnamacharya taught to Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.
Here is an example of what these manuscripts look like...
http://files.hammock.com/Typography/E3856_0014.jpg
Tala leaf books were written in the Brahma-lipti script, Siddham and later in Sanskrit. The subject matter contained in these manuscripts were vedic ritual, ayurvedic medicine, architecture, mathematics, astrology and yoga. It is said by scholors that only 10% of the manuscripts in existence today have been examined by experts. These books were responsible for the spread of the Siddham language & Buddhism into China. Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava took many tala leaf manuscripts into Tibet that contained secret Dharmas. These were not taught by the Guru himself when he was in Tibet, but were hidden for the future by him and by his Dakini Yeshey Tsogyal.
