Guest guest
Hi Okrgrl!

I was in Carlsbad a few weeks ago for the primary series classes with Guruji and bumped into another Ashtangi (a former resident of Oahu) who mentioned that there is an Ashtanga Shala in the Kaimuki area near Sacred Hearts Academy... in a mini shopping center.

Hope that helps!

It's cool you are in SD! What a great place you live in - great Ashtanga, great weather - you have the ocean and the mountain. Cool!
Guest guest
thanks soulcube. i'll pass it on. she lives in hawaii kai and teaches in waimanalo, so kaimuki is probably do-able. hope you enjoyed your trip. drop a line if you come back. we actually looked at living in honolulu area before coming to SD--my wife grew up there. unfortunately, to me it seemed as LA-ish as LA. traffic, congestion, development, water pollution and, sad to say, not much aloha spirit. too many people takes that away i think. the islands in general are wonderful though. better ocean and beaches and even higher mountains. Guest guest
hi okrgr1. like your wife, i was raised on oahu too. my husband & i rarely go back to oahu ourselves - mostly maui in the past few years. we love hiking in haleakala. next time, we'll do the Ashtanga too. there are still a few places to hang in oahu i think but it's spotty. i am a bit biased since i was raised there.

by the way - i loved the classes in carlsbad... just being around Guruji was cool. it was a dream-come-true. i'm a pretty new Ashtanga practitioner and was on the side-lines for years reading & thinking about it rather than actually practicing it - ha-ha! i feel transformed from the Carlsbad trip... i am in love with the practice and i'm actually practicing daily with ease and grace. How wonderful to experience the joy that comes forward from doing the practice. i guess i needed to meet Guruji to anchor the thinking about doing it to actually doing it! it's nice to find all of you who share in the practice.

Bless you.

p.s. if i find out the yoga shala name in Oahu - i will let you know.
