Guest guest Posted September 17, 2000 Report Share Posted September 17, 2000 To make a long story short...<br><br>The romanization of Hindi & Sanskrit words occured long ago, and has a few peculiar rules, one of which is that the letter "s" with an accent, is pronounced "sh."<br><br>For example, you sometimes see "Shiva" spelled "Siva." Both spellings signify the same word as well as the same pronunciation of the "sh" sound.<br><br>The same rule applies to "Astanga" and "Ashtanga."
