Guest guest
I've read that while practicing asanas, your heart rate should gradually become slower and slower as you move through the practice. I guess this is because you are approaching a more meditative state, and bodily functions naturally slow down as a result. Is this something that eventually happens in ashtanga? My own heart is working at well above a resting level as I practice. Nothing to get hung up on as I enjoy the strong breathing and movement, and its effects on how I feel. Maybe eventually, the energy that is generated will have a calming effect on the body, rather than stimulating it? Or maybe you can relax into postures with less effort once a certain level of strength or flexibility (and non-attatchment to these things) is attained. Can anyone comment on how this works? I imagine that improving concentration and quieting the "monkey mind" would also have a big effect on slowing down your other internal functions.

drew
