Guest guest
Thanks! Love the pet peeves, since I have so many of them. But boy, most of that techy jargon is way over my head. MOO? Does the book deal only with technologically derived neologisms? Or is it more general? Site looks kind of moribund since 97, though. Guest guest
No it is not more general, we use the AP style book for that.

Now when do they come out with a Sanskrit for Dummies book?
Guest guest
As an editor myself I am always delighted and amused by the wonder that is Fowler's Modern English Usage, 2e, truly the Mahabharata of language. A favorite entry:
"Split infinitive:
The English speaking world may be divided into (1) those who neither know nor care what a split infinitive is; (2) those who do not know but care very much; (3) those who know and condemn; (4) those who know and approve; and (5) those who know and distinguish. . . . "
Substitute Ashtanga for Split Infinitive and you have a fairly good description of all the types who contribute to this board.
