Guest guest
i sometimes feel a person's writing style stands out, almost like a fingerprint. curious if any of you pro's of prose notice anything familiar in the style of writing of our newly arrived m.p. (who by her own admission is not spw). not that i care who is who(m?). what the hell is a whom anyway? just curious if i am alone in sensing some similarities
Guest guest
okrgr1, absolutely love the phrase, but I believe it would be "pros of prose." Any other mavens care to comments? (See, I just can't help myself. Family of writers. Blame it on the parents.) Now if I had your email address, I might flame you privately. But I think you of all posters know it's in good fun.
Personally, I feel like giving out my email would be like inviting you all into my living room. Most of you I'd love to have over for a good drink -- whether it be wine, beer, seed milk, or green juice -- after a rooftop practice (BYO cow dung). But there are a few I would not want anywhere near my sanctum. Sorry, but that's the honest truth.

Pinky vs Pinchy:
There are similarities in style. Mostly from a sense of superiority, the high and mighty tone. It's an easy style to assume: try it some time! Both tend to refer to themselves in the the third person, a mannered conceit, intentionally distancing. Both are trapped in the unfortunate guru-worship thing that my Indian friends tell me is a bizarrely American trait.
Missy Pinky's posts have that iron fist in a velvet glove thing going on, a wicked sense of irony. She maintains an enjoyable, coy tone. Her posts are also generally helpful, constructive, and her humor is more clear and appreciated. She also does not engage in the constant tearing down that Pinchy so enjoys, but she does get a good giggle when Pinchy does it. (But I think we all do, for different reasons. Gawd, is he easy to provoke!) She is the better writer (despite the despicable "e" in judgment), her posts seem better thought through, less strident and reactive, and she does not engage in violent banter, it's more like the scolding of a parent.
That is Bandawoman's humble opinion, the result of a fast, superficial analyisis. Any other editorial types care to have a go at it?
Guest guest
ok, ok i had to jump in.

it's "pros of prose" I believe. The apostrophe in "pro's" is incorrect, plain and simple.

if i had any work ethic i'd try to get a job as an editor too. but don't they say most editors are repressed writers? or is it that most bad writers are repressed editors?

about the identity issue--ESPW signed message #3259 as "MK." What does that MEAN?
