Guest guest
Alan, you are right, the moon day is the practice time nearest the full or new moon. For instance if the full moon is at 11pm on Thursday and you normally practice at 6am - your moon day would be Friday.

Guruji often stretches moon days - if it appears on Thursday he will often call it Friday so we get a 2 day weekend.

The moon day is probably most important for teachers so they get a break - not only do they teach every day, they also practice.

I appreciate that if you only practice two days a week you dont really need an excuse to take a day off.

As for saturdays - who ever said these were sacred? - its one thing to imitate what someone else does, it is quite another to know why you are doing it. Again, the teacher needs rest. Even if the student does not turn up to class, the teacher has to be there. BNS Iyengar - student of Krishnamacharya and Jois teaches every day but moon days and festivals. Other teachers who are held in high esteem advise practicing every day (except during menstruation or when other duties are more important)
