Guest guest
Thanks for the public reinstatement - and just to warn you: I have taken a MOMENTOUS decision. I am just NOT going to read messages 3256 to 3644. Sod 'em. If they were that important it will get said again. Ergo: frustration cured instantaneously as I am now up to date. Which means I can contribute my own brand of mixed drivel and esoterica (and erotica too when required).

CRETE: Yes. Agios Pavlos is a wonderful place in the middle of nowhere. I've been four times: the first time with wife and kids (aged 3 and 4 at the time: beautiful safe swimming in the bay; slightly marred by a raging bush fire that crept up on us from 5 km away and threatened to force us to sleep in caves - my daughter was very scared! - and left us without power and water for a couple of days). I have not been back since Derek died, but get the impression from the brochures that the focus may have changed slightly. Any comments from those who have been before and after?

Practice/practise: former is the noun, latter is the verb (I am a professional linguist so I need to know!)

No one ever answered a question I posted about 5000 messages ago. How long can you go on doing ashtanga? Someone said guruji no longer does asanas. What does he do?

Dave
Guest guest
just to catch you up, the okrgr1 condensed version of 3256 - 3644 (many useful threads will have been overlooked here, of course. feel free to go back and review at your leisure)

1. it's ok to have a lasik procedure and still do yoga, just not at the same time
2. thunderbolt (laghuvajrasasna) is way hard to get out of, you have to do this grounding, spiralling, pushing, lifting bandha thing real quickly
3. spw is not female (it was not, however, determined what he is)
4. preganant women do yoga just fine thank you
5. yes, there are actually people who intentionally swill their own urine
6. there's a great red-tag red wine sale going on in SD.
7. blondie (loulou) has has an interest in exploring this whole transexual, transvestite yoga conundrum (the concept of which was first brought to light on this very board by our own special couple)was going to nyc for enlightenment and work but is now in the city of smog (smogangeles) for a while to clear out her system.
8. moon days are a popular topic, they may cause tidal shifts of lymphatic fluid, potentially predisposing to injury those who ignore the proscriptions
9. large breasted women are occasionally subjected to hypoxia during practice but there is a heretofore unheard of device called a uniboob that will liberate them
Guest guest
Hi Dave

What I heard was that originally the rule was that you do asanas for 12 years and then just pranayama and meditation. That's what Guruji did, and also where Iyengar split off and did his own thing because he didn's agree.
Dani
Guest guest
Hi John,

Thanks for the update - although the topics sound so fascinating it may actually make me go back and read them after all! Anyway, I knew I was right to stick to RED wine - it's bad enough drinking your own urine without wondering why they bothered to bottle someone else's.

Is the uniboob worn on the left or the right - or does it bring them together in the middle?

Anyway, you have certainly gone a long way towards redeeming the image I had of Californians: I know you all have lean tanned bodies, perfect teeth and Hollywood smiles, and are always jumping off your surfboards to have sex on the beach with the first woman you see, before getting stoned and driving your Chevvies down to a hip burger joint cruising for chicks, but you do write a very good summary and have an excellent memory for Post numbers. Must be a distraction from wondering about the weather: Will it be fairly sunny, sunny, very sunny or extremely sunny tomorrow?

Remind me to tell you about Belgium some time!!!

Dave

PS Did you ever know an Essex boy called Paul Cobbett - a former school friend and guitar buddy who lived in San Diego for about 15 years?
