Guest guest
so, at what age should kids begin formal instruction in ashtanga? there are lots of kids doing gymnastics or other sports at competitive levels ages 6-7. i would think if a child had the interest this would be an appropriate age. has guruji expressed an opinion on this? i recall a post a while back describing the array of different practicioners in mysore--one of them was a fairly young person from spain. how about the teachers here, guy? when do you prefer kids begin--not just the yoga for kids orientation type stuff but ashtanga vinyasa yoga? anyone here get their children going to classes? Guest guest
i was just imagining the yoga equivalent of the pushy sports parent, trying too hard to get their kids advanced. the kind of mom's or dad's that complain that their kid didn't get to be the starting pitcher or play quarter back or whatever. i can just see some parent berating the poor instructor for stopping the kid at navasana. "what are you doing? he does garbha pindasana better than any of the other kids and better than most of these fatso adults posing as yogis. you're squelching his natural ability. how's he gonna look in mysore this fall. we've taken him out of 2nd grade for the year so he can get thru the first four series with guruji. you're gonna mess that up. quit getting in the way. if you were any good at this you wouldn't be some hack teacher, you'd be in mysore yourself. we can do better with a video."
