Guest guest
I took a couple of Bikram style classes a year ago; didn't really care for it. But I did enjoy that recent class. As far as knees, I was given instructions to straighten the legs in that funky one legged pose -- i just concentrated on pulling up the kneecaps, same as I do in astanga practice. I don't know, does Bikram advise hyperextending the knees?

I think there's something to the Bikram way, though I wouldn't trade it for astanga. I'm going to go to a few more classes this month because I like the teacher, and the effects of the practice seem to complement my regular practice. Also, it seems worthwhile to take a bit of a break from the regular repetitive stress on the astanga arms. The laws of physiology (rest) don't care about good intentions and concepts of 6 days a week for life.
Guest guest
plus the 105 degree room is preparing me for my fate in the hell reserved for astanga criminals....
Guest guest
Oh, I'll make some room for you. Did a class tonight called "The Flow," based on the work of Tracy Rich and Ganga White. It made me feel like a wimp! It had a lot of the same standing poses, but with Sun Sal A between each one and plank/up dog/down dog between each side. Plus entering the poses from down instead of standing, which is a lot more difficult! Half moon, warrior 3, too. Then backbendy stuff, twisty things, then seated forward bends and finally some closing sequence postures. The sequence threw me off, as did the entry into poses.

In my deep Bikram's experience (as I said, one class) locking knees and elbows was as fundamental as bandhas are to us. I also didn't like how choppy it seemed. I prefer to flow (not The Flow).
