Guest guest
Edenlotus:
Edenlotus: congratulations! Hope you bloom well.

I was trawling around the Barnes & Noble website and there is a bunch of yoga tapes for pregnant types. But as I have said before, I have been in a workshop with an extraordinarily pregnant woman, and she were ultra-flexie, particularly due to the release of the hormone relaxin, which does just as it sounds.
B
Guest guest
Yeah, relaxin! I have fantasized for several years now about trying to get hold of some somehow and using it - like just before marichyasana D - then maybe partially neutralizing it for a tall straight tight handstand! Guest guest
Well, I'll let you know of any potential pharmaceutical advantages of this relaxin stuff. I certainly hope I don't get all floppy in headstand.
Guest guest
If you flop from headstand and the relaxin has kicked in, you could flop into the best backbend of your life! So enjoy it, sounds like much more fun than morning sickness.

Hey docs out there: at what month does the relaxin kick in? Must be late, since it's all about letting the bones open so the baby can come out...
Guest guest
Relaxin and some similar chemicals made by the placenta actually start early - the side effects on smooth muscle relaxation are detectable as morning sickness (because the stomach, a muscular bag, is not able to empty by muscular contraction alone when the mother is lying down - gravity helps during the day when she's up and about) and also the gallbladder, another muscular bag, lies full and floppy which allows stones to form. Of course, the main function of these chemicals early on is to allow the uterus to dilate as the developing fetus enlarges. Then late in pregnancy they really cut loose to open up the pelvis, too. Okrgr1 can explain this in greater detail when he gets back online. His practice looked really good in Carol Miller's class tonight.
