Guest guest
<<A fetus is a potential life.>>

eden,
yes, that is the crux, right there. is a fetus, or an embryo, or a fertilized egg, a living entity, or not? is it a potential thing or is it a thing? if it is a thing, is it alive or is it not? if it is a living thing, is it a human thing or a 'cabbage' thing with the potential to, at some point, morph into a human living thing?

if there was a consensus answer we would be a country/society less divided. fewer doctors would be murdered. pat buchanons would never win presidential primaries. couples would not be as torn by divided feelings about unplanned or "unwanted" pregnancies.

i for one do not have the answer (hard to believe isn't it?). i have my own feelings, which have evolved as i have gotten older, treated patients in all of those contexts and had children of my own.

i am glad that the topic can be discussed here in what has so far been a polite, inquisitive fashion. there is relevence to yama and ahimsa. i hope that the tone can stay a collegial one and not fracture into factionalism and acrimony.

happy philosophizing
