Guest guest
There was a 20 something year old in a class tonite. At the end of class she stood and listened while her 2 girlfriends spoke with me about their umm ashtanga yoga practice. Both of the girlfriends talked about the changes that have been occurring in their own bodies since taking yoga.

I could tell by the look on Cara's face,("alias") that speaking about the body's emotional, psychological, structual, biological changes in this manner was unfamilier and she looked uncomforatable with the current "thread" of conversation. Probably because she had not practiced yoga for as long.

This was her first yoga class - a beginners class ,no less, where she learned basics of Surya Namaskara. She was tall with good appearance and features, although slightly hunched forward. Many young people are these days with the pressures of being in their age group.

I wondered if they felt that yoga is a trend. If so, these people are fitting in with it too. I thought... "thank god". If yoga is a trend then thank god, because those girls and many more people may just get a glimpse at something called themselves - even if it be for a moment. Yea!

Anyway, I bid goodnight and they went out into the night dressed in reeboks, guess jeans, baseball caps that said something about Girls Kicking Ass and chewing juicy fruit gum.
"Namaste and peace", I thought.
Peace
Guest guest
Enjoyed your message as a newcomer to this site I was getting a little tired of the abortion and vegetarian issues. Nice to see some perspective on yoga back on the site. If only I had an opportunity to do ashtanga in my twenties instead of age 37 after 3 children. But alas I have found it now. Guest guest
Just thought I'd drop a line! I'm *gasp* 20 (I just turned 20 last Friday) and I love my ashtanga class. The class is primarily older people (like 30 and up--I'm NOT saying that 30 is old!!! but it's older than me) and the very first class that I went to, one of the people told me that my attitude was refreshing and he liked the energy I brought to the class. But personally, I like the energy that some of the older people in my class bring to it (this time I mean like 50s and 60s). I guess its all a means of perspective. In my life, I don't think ashtanga will be a trend... I'm going to do this forever!

Lauren
Guest guest
Reminds me of that time what's her name who plays Dharma on Dharma and Greg (...) did a skit on SNL. Said something like "and i'd kick their butt because i'm like really strong and everything cause i do POWER YOGA!!"
Guest guest
Alas? Alas? What do you mean "alas I have found it now" I hope you meant "AT LAST I've found it now! And I, at 57, also wish from a purely physical standpoint that I had found it in my 20's or 30's, although I would never have appreciated it's mental, emotional or spiritual aspects then and feel that after several years of practice that I'm only now just touching these. Good luck in your practice!!!!
