My first class!!!

Just wanted to let all of you who encouraged me

know that I made it to my first class last night. It

was Mysore style, and what an experience. Up until

now, I'd only seen pictures of postures. I just wanted

to sit and stare. What a buzz of energy!

The

room seemed small and cramped to me, and I had

difficulty with balance. I think the stimulation of everyone

around me, coupled with my worry of falling into someone

probably contributed to that. I think they're having the

class in the bigger room next week.

I've always

practiced on the carpet, so this was my first time on a

mat. I found with the face-up dog, I was having

trouble getting into that position without causing a big

wrinkle in the mat each time. I tend to pull my body

forward (dragging along the tops of my feet) so that my

hips are close to my hands, and the mat just wanted to

come along with my feet each time (is this making any

sense?). So is this incorrect, or is there a trick to

doing it on a mat?

Also, I was done much earlier

than anyone else, and wasn't sure the proper

etiquette. Is it okay to sit and watch, or should I just get

up and leave?

The people seemed nice, but I

wasn't able to really speak with anyone because I have

completely lost my voice (some sort of cold). Anyway, any

advice would be appreciated regarding the above

questions.
