Guest guest
i have no idea exactly what hubris means but it seems to be the right heading with this topic.

All obnoxious behaviour at yoga admitted, and put aside, (by me) to say this: Some people freak out if someone does a handstand before class. That seems so weird to me - sure it is not everyone who can do it without the wall but we are not talkin tripple back somersault ala circe d'soleil or anything. What is the beef (carrot) with a hand stand before class - wall or no wall?

It is great to get some blood to the head, goes a long way in allaying the tedium of waiting for class, beats chatting....

Does it seem to showy? Is it inappropriate - why?
Sometimes simple stretching in a seated position can overawe a newcomer. Does that mean no-one should move before class begins? That is so nazi.

Sure some warm-ups that some advanced people do make my eyes bulge in fascination...but we are in this line of movement. And sometimes a little doubt creeps in whether this person may be enjoying this accomplishment and its effects, but so what. One gets over it.
It is hard to determine where innocent stretching ends and doing things that are more ego induced start ....But does that mean it is more appropriate to never do anything - it is so goooood to stretch before class.

Maybe it is better to not assume something is always negatively motivated.

ps
(this is not a commentary on bandawoman's justified line of thought. It is a separate thought)

pps
(To Okgr1 -did you muzzle your fingers? You have been awfully quiet.)
Guest guest
hubris noun FORMAL
very great pride and belief in your own importance

<<did you muzzle your fingers?>>
a while back, i read a good quote from the "favorite quote" slot on a new member's profile. it went, "when was the last time you did something for the first time?" i thought about that for a long time. it is a very intriguing mindset. last week i decided i would try to do something brand new, never tried before. so, i exercised some restraint.
harder to do than i thought. there were a lot of topics i would have liked to have pontificated on--especially the light banter between loulou and homer. but, being tougher than woodpecker lips, i held out--for the most part.

not really. i was out of town
