Guest guest
Some friends are going to stay in/around vancouver for a few days. They have been told that there is a arty little town surrounded by lovely scenery close to vancouver that would be a great place to stay--does this ring any bells for you? Do you have any tips for things they (a mom, a dad, and a 3yr old girl) should do/see? They are big fans of the great outdoors, microbrews and blues music too.
thanks
hula
Guest guest
Hi hula (it's hard not call you hulahoop!

There's Squamish, which is close to Vancovuer, has at least one brewpub, and is right in the middle of some incredible sea and mountain scenery. There's a sheer rock face called the Chief for climbers and hikers, and a beach/campground called Porteau Cove nearby, among other things. It's probably got a bit of a funky vibe there; don't know much about it since we've never really been to the town. Nelson matches that description, but it's not really close to Vancouver (a 6-hour drive perhaps). There is also Salt Spring Island, but they didn't mention an island, right? There is a ski resort at Whistler but I wouldn't call Whistler arty. Other than that, we can't think of a place that matches that description except Vancouver itself, which is has arty little areas surrounded by lovely scenery! I am a big fan of the metropolis (it's not overwhlemingly large) so if they like outdoors, microbrews, and da blues--I'd say come on down to the city--we've got all three! But I must add: not enough of da blues

oh--you can give them our e-mail so they can ask specific questions! sunandmike
