Guest guest
I choose to be vegetarian and do not eat meat or eggs(unless they are in bread or ice cream)but do eat some milk products like cheese and yogurt. I am having a lot of trouble with food, especially sugar and I guess as I increase my Ashtanga practice maybe some of my less healthy eating habits will be easier to change. I would like to slim down some and am having trouble with overeating and eating ice cream (which I hadn't had in a long time until a few weeks ago and now I am up to three pints a week. I also have had some trouble with caffeine(coffee) and am still dependant on it in the morning, which makes it hard for me to get up early enough to meditate before I go to work. I am worried about the holidays, because there will be a lot of goodies around and I have trouble with moderation when it comes to things like cookies and chocolate. I am doing Ashtanga 2-3 times a week and more traditional Hatha YOga 2-3 times a week as well. Any suggestions would be welcome. I have tried veganism and fit for life (mostly live foods/food combining) and I guess the biggest problem is willingness. I am a little heavy for my height (121lbs at 5'1") and suspect marichyasana c&d and kukutasana (sp? (arms through legs in lotus))would be a little better without so much stuff to smush together. I know that there is probably a wide range of ideas about healthful eating in this community, but I am open. Thanks in advance for any response, K.J.M.J. Guest guest
try practicing Ashtanga 5-6 days a week and you will find that your appetites change for the better. we have seen this happen again and again.
Guest guest
Thank you very much for your response. I shall try...alas discipline is not my strong suit, however I know the only way to develop the principle of discipline is through practicing it. Guest guest
That's certainly true.

On a related note, I wonder if there have ever been any studies on cellular fluid retention related to different diets.

My experience with diets tells me:

1: overeating (with any food) leads to stiffening/contraction of the tissues brought on by cellular fluid retention.

2: More sodium, more stiffness, due to fluid retention

3: Flesh foods typically contain more sodium than veg quality foods.

4) Something about the quality of Flour foods leads to more fluid retention than does the eating of whole unprocessed grains (e.g. rice).

5) The quality of fruits and vegetables -- esp juiced -- generally promotes less fluid retention than any other food.

6) The effect of sugar on my flexiblity? Still an unknown, though too much processed sugar "saps the prana."
