Guest guest
Sunshine, since your time is your own, I'm just wondering what time of day you practice. I am finding that I gravitate toward mid-morning when I'm not bound by a class.

Oh, did you celebrate Canadian or US TG, or both (or neither)? Still got any hope for US election results?

I also agree that practice stults cravings. It seems like I care more about what I am putting into my body. Sugar intake is way down and I can hardly look at cheese for some reason... And even ice cream doesn't call out to me in the grocery aisles anymore (whereas those Ben & Jerry Limited editions used to beckon fiercely). Guest guest
Hi Bandawoman,

I usually practice in the late morning, around 10 AM.

We didn't celebrate either one! But I did get nice phone calls from my folks on US TG.

The elections? I don't know--I always have some kind of hope. Hey--I designed my first political cartoon; check it out at our website www.sunandmike.20m.com. However, it's already a bit outdated.

I have a weakness for cheese! I don't notice ill effects from eating it, so I consider it a harmless indulgence. It goes so well with wine, beer and ryvita crackers. A major food-craving advancement for us: we both like chocolate, and now we can actually eat one or two rows and put it away, letting it sit around uneaten for days!!!! It's incredible. Guest guest
Practice may stult some cravings but bring out others. Over the past few months I've developped a tremendous craving for a Sobe Elixer with calcium, carnitine, and chomium (Grapefruit/Cranbery flavor) after practice. I know that it's full of high fructose corn sweetener but I seem to need something in it that I cannot refuse. I've been able to clean up my diet a lot but cannot seem to shake this one. Any suggestions?
Guest guest
What is carnitine? I know it's in a lot of supplements, but how is it derived? Maybe the word folks can help; I've avoided it as an ingredient because "carn" indicates meat to me, as in some form or animal derivation, but I have never been sure. I remember how shocked I was when someone told me a dye used in certain fruit juices, a red colorant, was made from ground up insects; I wish I could remember the name but it escapes me. Anyone know about this or carnitine?

Hey John/Okrgr1: when can we expect the tabulation for the month of November? Do you think you'll need to do a recount? Guest guest
the main reason to break the SoBe habit is price.

If you are serious about breaking this addiction--try Emergen-C after practice. It comes in serveral flavors and though it contains fructose, that's not as "bad" as the corn sweeteners in bottled beverages. It also has 1000 mg of C and has Bs and electrolytes too--it's amazing stuff! Trader Joes has the best price on it, from what I remember. Cheers!

Sunshine
Guest guest
p.s. in case you didn't know, emergen-c comes as an effervescent powder.
Guest guest
laproxdoc,

It's interesting that you mention your Sobe addiction because in the last two weeks, I have not been able to shake my lollipop cravings (need at least 1-3 a day). I know I like it because of the sugary cherry flavor and now I'm concerned because I don't want this to become a habit and I definitely don't want another visit to the dentist's chair. What does one do? Fight it or hope the cravings will run it's course?
Guest guest
if you don't buy it, you can't consume it. stay out of that aisle in the store. or try the alternative, eat so many of them that you throw up and never want to see another lollipop as long as you live. want vs need. we need air, water, etc, we may want a sucker, a glass of wine, a great steak dinner, a pint of hagen daz, etc, but we don't need them
Guest guest
I think just noting the effects our food choices have on our practice is the major motivating factor in changing diet.

I ate too much too late last night, way too much salt too, and during my practice this morning i felt more like Caliban than Ariel. I'll be wise hereafter and seek for grace (and raw foods)
Guest guest
Yeah, there's nothing like a food hangover. Whenever I go a little nuts with the ice cream, the next morning just feels terrible. It's a good sign though, that we can be in touch with our bodies enough to be aware of this; not everyone is. Just one of the benefits of practice...
Guest guest
It's true that the quality of your practice is directly related to what you eat. I gravitate towards food that makes the body feel lighter. I've become very conscious of the things that are harder for me to digest. This is a unique experience for each individual and that's why some things will work for one person and not another.
I was already a vegetarian for many years before practising ashtanga yoga but my diet has seen many changes due to this awareness.
