Re the Mysore article in Conde nast traveller mag

- I have just browsed through the December edition

and there is no mention of Mysore anywhere! Is there

a US version (I'm in UK)? or is the article in a

previous edition?

I just picked this up at a bookstore yesterday.

The article didn't pop right out at me. There is no

mention of it on the cover and there is no mention of it

on the first contents page, which lists "features".

A few pages later is another contents page. Under

"Our World"/Asia/India, it says Mysore. The article is

on pages 126, 128, 130, 132 and 134. This is the

December issue, American edition. Interesting article,

exclusively about studying yoga with Pattabhi Jois and BNS

Iyengar. The author checked out PKJ but decided to study

with Iyengar instead. The article may be a bit

superficial and didn't make the trip sound too appealing.

The author also falls into the trap of, "if it's

been discovered by Americans, it's not worth doing"

i.e., Jois's shala is full of white, Western yoga babes

and dudes so obviously BNS Iyengar, who is cheaper

and has Indian students and "studios with bat shit in

the corners" is more authentic and better. Very

dismissive of Jois, unfortunately. She also reccomends BBB's

"Power Yoga" book as the way to learn the first

series.

Also, Rebecca Mead, who wrote the Mysore story in the

New Yorker last summer, has a short Talk of the Town

piece in this issue making fun of models and dancers

who do Bikram yoga. Are we in for a long hot summer

of yoga and guru bashing?
