Guest guest
Hi: I was wondering, I think I asked this before, but don't think I got much of an answer. I have practiced yoga and martial arts in the past and continue to work out, so I'm fairly supple, but I have MS and am 50, and pretty big from the steroids. I had the embarassing experience of going to a Aikido class and being told to do Tai Chi b/c I was too big. Do you think an Ashtanga teacher will accept me like I am? --Thanks, Connie
Guest guest
Connie,
No teacher I've had in astanga would ever turn anyone away for being too big. No matter what their physical condition was like, they have tried to start all students up in a soft way (except if they were pregnant or had a serious injury), never pushing them in the beginning.

However, as with any other activities, there are good teachers and bad teachers. Maybe someone here can help you with telling you about the yoga studios where you live, whom I of course cannot answer for. But I sincerely hope there aren't any teachers around who would not try to help you build up a practice on because of your size.
annifree
Guest guest
Oh, I hope you're right. I'm moving to another state in February to go to law school; I've contacted teachers in Fayette, Boulder and Miami, but really wish I could find someone in Las Vegas.

Thanks,
Connie
