Guest guest
No experience w/Gyrotonics, although I did investigate it earlier this year, when I was on a Pilates kick. (took some private sessions, got a cheapo version of a reformer, the Pilates "Premier", which now sits mostly unused in my family room. Got some of the Stott videos, manuals...) I noticed your profile mentions Pilates -- do you do that as well as the Ashtanga? I thought at the time it would be a good alternative to the yoga, when boredom sets in, as it usually will at some point. But now that I'm getting more into the Ashtanga, I don't want to distract myself with another activity. It seems like it'd be hard to find time to do both. Gyrotonics looked interesting -- I did find one person locally who was a trainer in it, but that's about as far as I got. I'm not really in a position to afford long term private sessions, and I didn't see anyplace that sold the equipment. If I even had the space for it... still, it looked like a very beneficial training system.<br>Edie
Guest guest
Gyro is more like yoga than Pilates, although I read that both inventors studied yoga. Gyro seemed to be more wholistic and less appearance oriented with it's results. It is more flowing and spiral in it's movements, where Pilates is more linear. It actually reminded me a bit of Astanga, in that it flows with the breath more so than Pilates. I came upon the class last night at our local Pilates school, where I am in the certification process, actually. Just started it. You open up a good topic of discussion...since I am a believer in variety with regards to exercise, I wonder why some of you just do yoga and nothing else for exercise...I am trying to find my opinion of this, as I lift weights 2x a week, do cardio 3x, and now yoga 2x...I find myself wanting to do yoga daily, but am too busy. I also see great benefits of a more well - rounded exercise program, that just doing Astanga everyday. And I don't want to get injured...wondering if any of you have opinions or experience with this...Sandy
