Guest guest
S & M...I have been to the Amazon, several ports in Europe, Greece, Turkey, Russia, Germany, but my fav trip was Scandinavia (7 weeks) and 14 days of Norway. Love Scando. WOW. Hoping to actually live there part time in retirement. Hard work, yeah, but free travel, that was my attitude. I was single then, it was perfect. The simple life, living out of one suitcase, going from sweats to evening gowns, was cool. And all meals were prepared, extravigant and a sweet Phillipino man made my bed everyday - I was in heaven. As long as you can dodge the advances the Greek waiters who haven't been home for months on end, and they go either way Mike, if this is you, so that is my only word of warning. I survived without a scratch. Wondering now why that is... Sandy
Guest guest
Oh sorry, it's me Sunshine. Your adventures sound wonderful, possibly right up my alley. But is there any time to do yoga? What kind of staff were you? Hey, Mike is used to same-sex come-ons. We live in a rainbow area of downtown Vancouver.

One thing we are planning to do is working on an organic farm in Europe sometime. Leaning towards Spain or Greece. Olive picking perhaps. P.S. I also love that feeling of having all your stuff in one bag.
Guest guest
Hey, Sunshine - nice to "meet" you! I was considered "cruise staff" and was part of the team that greets the pax in suits when they board, and must show up at all the fancy parties at night to schmooze (don't ya love Yiddish?!). By day, I was teaching classes or doing personal training in the gym. There was down time, enough for yoga...I can think of some cool locations where you could hide away for your own private practice, overlooking the water! Pack your bags! Also, in the gym after 5pm, would be great. Not a pax in sight. And since my hours were sort of strange, I often would go to the gym for a weights workout at like 11pm, on a night when there were no parties. The best gig, though, would be to go on as a guest lecturer. You get a free cruise in exchange for giving some talks about your particular area of expertice. I plan to do that someday, maybe with yoga, if I gain enough practice. The organic farm sounds really great. Sounds like you guys are married w/o kids...ah travel now!!! We got hitched and started a family right away, in our early 30's, so we didn't get much time to travel like you are doing. Soak it up! Guest guest
sunshine, if you're heading to europe in the fall, look into working the grape harvest at a winery. the pay is not extravagent but you usually get the option of getting paid with money or wine. better than black hands from olives
Guest guest
Sandy, what kinds of classes do you teach? Are you a personal trainer?

Yup we are married w/o kids. Also w/o other things that make it hard to pick up and take off, like a car or permanent job (I can't work in Canada yet, and Mike can take off whenever he wants).

So do you get to choose where you want to go when you sign up with a crusie ship? Do you get hired directly by the company--how does that work?

Yes, some of our greatest adopted words come from Yiddish! schmooze, schtick, schlong (very appropriate vord, ya?), mench, the list goes on. Guest guest
Sun, My Himalayan mix cat is named Schmutz! it just fits him. Such a pretty cat, but always into dusty corners. Yeah, I am a trainer and I teach specialty fitness classes, like with weights and circuit training. I've done it all. I lived in California during the 80's aerobics boom, then migrated to Cleveland about 6 years ago. Oh, there are a variety of ways to get on the ships. Depends which job you are wanting to get. What is your forte? Perhaps I can steer you from there. There are agents that get you the speaking gigs, but at the moment, I do not have one. Just call a cruise line you aspire to go on and ask them for who they use. Also, use the net, I think there are sites for getting jobs, but watch out for their fees - you do not have to go that route. Try Steiner.com. They place most of the spa staff. I was, however, directly hired by the cruise line. Anyway, what do you both do for work at the moment in Canada?? Sandy
Guest guest
Only for you, Sun...go to the link, scroll all the way to the bottom and there is a photo of my cat and husband. Glad you found the web site for Steiner. And yes, your mom in Miami should be able to really hook you up with some folks who have much more current connections than I do.
