Guest guest
OK, so I mispelled phlegm. Sorry- it's the winter affliction that I've come to live with (I keep telling myself I'm just "detoxing"). Stuffy/runny/phlegmy noses are difficult to deal with in the first stages of practice. Humidifiers have seemed to work. Anyway, has anyone heard from Dirk? A ways back he was very disturbed about his inability to practice...very troubled...we were all quite worried.

BTW, the handstand after the fierce pose in the transition poses from standing to sitting is not simply a "flourish" as in a tango dance (nor the one after navasana). And, thanks laxprodoc for explaining the "leg lift" after virbradhrasana II in those same transition poses. They are part of the series once your arm strength, (lack of) fear of falling over, concentration, and stability have been established. Although I like the allegory of ashtanga to a dance, the handstands really aren't simply meant to be an embellishment, but a further push into yoga. If one can't do the handstands, you can practice the testing of your limits with bakhasana and jumping back from your legs up on your arms, as mentioned here previously.
