Guest guest
I practised Iyengar Yoga extensively for about 3 years. I am still quite fond of it, because that's the style which got me started in yoga, and I owe much to it.

In those years I also bought several of the more commonly used Iyengat Yoga props: Sticky mats, blankets, bolsters, wooden blocks, a cotton belt, 2 metal folding chairs, and a beautifully crafted wooden "Setu Bandha bench" (which I now use as a kind of shelf to store my black mat and Mysore practice rug...ahem...).

I also own most of BKS Iyengar's books. His "Light on Yoga" is a classic on hatha yoga. It has an excellent introduction into yoga philosophy, and you will find almost all the postures from Primary & Intermediate Series there fully illustrated and explained in every detail.

Although I gave up Iyengar since I started with Ashtanga Yoga, I think that the Iyengar approach is very good during menstruation, pregnancy, and if suffering illness or serious physical disabilities.

Some Iyengar links:

http://www.bksiyengar.com (official website of BKS Iyengar)
http://www.yoga.com (site focused on Iyengar Yoga. In the "Yoga section" you will find a full catalouge of Iyengar helping cutlery).

A site on Ashtanga Yoga teacher BNS (not to be confused with BKS!) Iyengar:
http://www.ajna.demon.co.uk/yoga/iyengar.htm .

(And an Ashtanga site which always makes me goggle-eyed: http://www.jivamuktiyoga.com ).
