Guest guest
I confess: I have always been fond of Jivamukti's website http://www.jivamuktiyoga.com . Last time I did the virtual tour through the center -a new feature there- and I was quite impressed.

But it seems to me that some members on this board do not have a high opinion of it (I don't know if it's because Jivamukti teaches an eclectic mix of different yoga styles, or simply because the place is a hit among real and would-be showbiz stars?)

Also, I haven't got yet what this "Jivamukti Yoga" is about. Maybe it's an Ashtanga variation pepped up with Sanskrit chanting and lectures on yoga philosophy?

I have been in Milan, in Italy, at the end of last year. I thought that in the homeland of Italian Ashtanga heroes Lino Miele & Tina Pizzimenti it would be easy to find books on Ashtanga Yoga. I visited Milan's (as well as Italy's, for that matter) largest bookshop, "Hoepli", and in its yoga department (where interestingly, I was the only living being there), I saw everything from Aurobindo Yoga to Kundalini -and a de luxe edition of the "Kamasutra"- but no Ashtanga books, no chance. However, I found an old copy of the "Yoga Journal" on the bookshelf, which informed me that David Life & Sharon Gannon are planning a book on Jivamukti Yoga. I intend to stick to Ashtanga, but maybe the Jivamukti book could be useful as a source of inspiration...
Guest guest
I visited the Jivamukti site today.

Since I'm one of the fortunate ones blessed with an excellent shala only a few miles away from where in live in California, my initial feeling was gratitude. Jivamutkti seems to me to be very expensive, and I'm very cheap.

Thinking about it some more, I think that Jivamukti must be a good thing if it's bringing astanga yoga to people. Any kind of support for practice is a good support as long as it doesn't exploit or hurt others, and if people are attracted to what J is offering, there must be something positive there.

If not, new schools and shalas will arise in NYC.
