Guest guest
I'm just a regular 43 year old norther california gal who goes to Bryans class every time I am in So Cal. Yes, occasionally I have seen someone famous there but for the most part it's just folks ... well so cal folks, practicing yoga. AND I think that Mr Kest does an excellent job of bringing and presenting many of the teachings of Ashtanga. Many of us DO NOT live in India. We are westerners and I value Mr Kests way of presenting the Ashtanga tradition
in a way that fits into many of our western lives
Guest guest
The thing is, Betty; Bryan does not teach Ashtanga. When you take out some of the poses and change the order around, you loose 99% of the benefit of Ashtanga. What Bryan does, and I'm sure people on this board are tired of hearing me say this, is what most people do who teach 'power yoga', and that is teach excercise, not purification. Somebody else made that particular distinction very accurately already in those very words.

Why are you using so many words in capital letters? By the way, was it you who pulled a muscle? Was it in Bryan's class? They tend to have a very competitive energy there and it is easy to get carried away by it and end up doing something your body is not ready for. It happens a lot. Not that it is not possible to do the same in an Ashtanga class. Those power yoga classes most definitely have a feeling of that good old American competitive spirit going on. I don't think you have to defend yourself. This is a public message board and you can go to whatever yoga classes you want, right?
FBL
Guest guest
yes, FBL this is a public message board and I was simply expressing my opnion. I have never felt like Bryans classes were competive, on the contrary, he teaches respect for your own body and it's limitations. Have you ever attended one of his classes?

By the way, it was not me who pulled a muscle in his class
